solipsistic NATION No. 61: Ultimae Records

October 26, 2007

Ultimae RecordsOn this week’s solipsistic NATION we’re joined by Sunbeam of Ultimae Records and we’ll hear songs she has selected from the roster of artists on her label.

I first found out about Ultimae Records while listening to Fake Science’s Lab Report Podcast and I was immediately enchanted with the label. Ultimae Records releases music that is sometimes ambient, sometimes downtempo, sometimes uptempo but always haunting and beautiful. That’s quite an accomplishment because there are many labels with the same aspirations as Ultimae Records but they fall short because they lack either the caliber of artists on Ultimae Records or the consistency of quality releases. Where other labels fail Ultimae Records succeeds because all their releases are deep and luxurious.

Sadly, Fake Science are closing their online store but I’m grateful that they turned me on to Ultimae Records.

    Hi Travis,

It pains me that Fake Science is closing its doors because they provide such a great service and they really have a stand-up team. Most of the stuff on Fake Science you’ll be able to find elsewhere but it was great to find so much great stuff at one portal. I often thought of Fake Science as a record label and not a music store because they were so careful to release only the highest quality music.

Glad you picked up Robert Rich’s live sets. If you enjoy the live shows I put out on solipsistic NATION then you’re going to love an upcoming show I’m hoping to release in the next month or so. I’m planning to put out a live set by Hol Baumann accompanied with several interviews with Hol. Sunbeam from Ultimae Records will act as translator so this project might take longer than most but it’ll be worth the wait.

Enjoy this week’s show and have a lovely weekend!

    ciao,
    Bazooka Joe

Hol is working on a studio album for Ultimae Records but you can pick up his live set at Fake Science here for a mere $5!

Hol Baumann is the pseudonym of Olivier Orand and you can find out more about him by visiting his website.

Lovely show, Joe. Afterwards I purchased a few songs by Solar Fields off of iTunes.

    Keep up the great work!

    Gretchen,

Since you enjoyed this show so much then I think you’re really going to like the music from the Dub Beautiful Collective that comes out in a week or two. I’ll be interviewing DBC’s Maer and there will be a few live tracks from artists from Ultimae Records.

    ciao,
    Bazoooka Joe
