solipsistic NATION No. 2: End of Summer

September 8, 2006

End of SummerAh, summer comes to an end.

I’ve been living in San Diego for the last five years and to be honest, it’s always been summer to me. Natives and long time residents of San Diego can tell the differences between seasons but I’m only vaguely aware of them. As a consequence, all the months and years I’ve live in San Diego have blurred together. There’s only an endless “now.”

While today’s show is a celebration of the passing of the summer it’s more of a salute to my summers in Boston, where the days are hot, humid and lazy and the nights are sultry. I wouldn’t trade the weather in San Diego for anything but I do on occasion miss those New England days where the heat would bake into your bones.

Another thing I do miss about living in Boston are my seasonal libations. In the fall and winter my drinks were whiskey and scotch and in the spring and summer my drinks were gin & tonic and rum & coke. As I said, it always feels like it is summer in San Diego so I have to go out of my way to drink my whiskey or scotch.

That said, I raise a gin & tonic in honor of the summer of ‘06!

after the email sent my way regarding the upcoming show, i got curious and came over here. really dug this one, particularly the selections from Vinroc, Effecctive, and Cj_Harder. that and i’m a big Mark De Clive-Lowe fan.

definitely plan to check out the other shows, particularly the nerdcore episode…

    Jason,

    Thanks for the post!

Yeah, I really liked this show. It really captured the feel I was looking for and with artists like Vinroc, Effecctive and the rest it’s really hard to go wrong.

When I was doing solipsistic NATION on Free Radio San Diego I jumped from genre to genre on my show but on the podcast I seem to be sticking to one genre of electronic music. I’m not sure why that is but it may have to do with the fact that the podcast is an hour long and my radio show was two hours long, which really gave me room to explore themes.

I hope you enjoy the Nerdcore show. I had a blast putting that one together!

Once a month I’m going to do shows like the Nerdcore episode where I feature interviews and music from a particular genre. At the moment I’m assembling a chiptune/bitpop show, an Illbient show (just scored an interview with Ben Neill), a dubstep show and a grime show. Whew! That will take me all the way up to January!

    ciao,
    Bazooka Joe

[...] One week I’m playing lazy hip hop beats, the next I’m getting aggro with a drum and bass show and then the week after that I have a guest DJ and then this week is a live performance by ambient glitch dub musician, Deru. What up with that? [...]
